Inspectorate Story: Rescuing Thea with Lee Bryant

“Heros are ordinary people who make themselves EXTRA-ordinary” – Gerard Way

Hero is the word that comes to mind when describing our friend of the animals Warrent Officer Lee Bryant who recently rescued a German Shepherd puppy that was tied to a pole in the hot sun with no food or water.

He brought her straight to our SPCA where she was admitted and cared for. Once she had put on weight from her Hill’s Pet Nutrition diet and lots of treats from Lee, she was sterilised and ready to go home. He named her Thea 💙 and we were so happy to see Thea for a visit yesterday looking healthy, happy and settled with her new family.

Thank YOU Lee for choosing to never turn away from injustice and being a hero to so many daily as well as a hero to Thea!

Abused and Abandoned: Left in a trolley

Abused and Abandoned: Left in a trolley

The Story of Pavlova/Faith: Abandoned at Pavilion

On the 22nd February The Kloof and Highway SPCA received a call concerning a puppy that had been found abandoned in a trolley at The Pavilion Shopping Centre. When Field Officer Eric Simamane from the Inspectorate Department arrived he was both saddened and angered by what he saw. The little face that greeted him had disfigured ears and on closer inspection a disfigured tail. Judging by her injuries it was clear this had been inflicted by a person wishing to harm the little soul.

Upon his return Field Officer Eric took her straight up to the Clinic where the staff waiting assessed her condition and treated her for her immediate needs. She was severely dehydrated, hungry and in pain. She was placed on a drip and given the necessary pain killers. Once stabilised the decision was made that she would manage to be placed under anaesthetic in order for the vet to surgically repair her mutilation. The cause of her disfigurement was tightly wound elastic bands that had cut off her ears and tail.

During her time at the Clinic, Faith as she was named went under a complete transformation. From a timid and frightened little girl she became a brave, energetic, loving and affectionate soul who despite her horrific past had overcome her insecurities. Faith is an incredible example of forgiveness and resilience. We as humans have so much to learn from animals if we just took the time.

When Barry arrived to adopt a dog there was only one girl he was interested in and that was Faith. He saw her for everything she stood for – a brave soul that just wanted to be loved. We could not have asked for a better home and we look forward to lots of feedback and many photos. The Kloof and Highway SPCA made a difference in the life of an abandoned puppy left in a trolley.

Thank you to all our supporters who make a story like this happen. We cannot do it alone.

Abused Alfie enjoys new farm life

Abused Alfie enjoys new farm life

Inspectorate Story: Alfie

From a sad and forlorn little puppy in our Kloof and Highway SPCA Clinic to a thriving, energetic, and incredible dog this is the story of Alfie. Alfie was brought into our Kloof and Highway SPCA by an Inspector who was called to collect a stray in Pinetown. Alfie was thin and dehydrated, but what was so upsetting was to see his jagged cut ears that were still bleeding and infected. His tail had been broken, and what should have been a wagging tail going back and forth was a tail that hid crooked and bent between his legs.

Fast forward to June and the most perfect couple who were looking to add to their existing family fell in love with Alfie. The minute they laid eyes on Alfie, his playfulness, energy, and his zest for life they knew he was their.

Through everything he had endured, he was a survivor with not a hint of bitterness or anger. Alfie now has a life of bedtime cuddles, walks in the forests, and visits to a farm. We want to say to all the Alfie‘s out there that with your imperfections you are beautiful and deserving but more importantly, we want to say to Arthur and Theresa, thank YOU for choosing to adopt and give this amazing soul a second chance.

We are so very grateful!

Hung from a tree like a rag doll!

Hung from a tree like a rag doll!

Hung from a tree like a rag doll! Tied up and left for dead!

When Field Officer King Ndimande arrived, he untied the lifeless little body and immediately started resuscitation. We do not know how long he had been in this state, but we do know that it was truly a miracle that he survived. What a fighter, and what a character he has turned out to be! We could not have been happier when this special family chose to adopt him. and named him after his hero, Kingston. No animal deserves to have experienced the trauma he did.

Hung with a rope to cowering in a corner so petrified of any touch to surviving a dangerously low immune system to finally becoming a bouncing and playful puppy who loves affection – this is what our Kloof and Highway SPCA is all about. Fighting and preventing all animal cruelty and ensuring we are here for all those defenseless and innocent souls.

Please consider donating to The Kloof and Highway SPCA and help us continue to make a difference in so many animals’ lives.

PIP: A Diwali Rescue Story

PIP: A Diwali Rescue Story

PIP: A Diwali Rescue Story

Amongst the loud bangs and chaos of last night’s Diwali came a story of a little puppy so petrified she crawled into a 23 meter drain pipe rather than endure the pain she was suffering with the petrifying noises. Unfortunately for her the more scared she became the further she ventured until it became impossible for her to retreat. When Inspector Petros Simamane and Field Officer Philani Nzama were called to the scene early this morning, it became apparent they would need a camera to ascertain exactly how far she had gone in. Ganga Plumbers were only too happy to assist with their camera as soon as they realized a little puppy was in dire need of being rescued.

After over 4 hours of hard work, digging and sweat there was much to celebrate as the shivering little soul was finally retrieved by a tired but elated Inspectorate team. Once again, we would like to thank those that helped make this rescue possible and special mention to Ganga Plumbers for the use of the invaluable camera. Currently our little rescue is sleeping with a full tummy and wrapped safely in a fleece blanket. She is one of the fortunate one’s we were able to assist, but let us spare a thought to all those animals who last night spent the night petrified and frightened while people continued to ignore our pleas to refrain from loud fireworks.
