Boots Loving Life With Her New Family

Boots Loving Life With Her New Family

Cindy and Boots – a love story

From childhood, we all know that ‘once upon a time’ is how every good story begins.  And this story follows through about a small black dog found tied to another dog which had died.

Completely entangled, unable to move, traumatised and scared, she was thankfully rescued and brought in to us.  We’d recently lost a staff member who’d brought sunshine into everyone’s lives, so we passed on her name – Cindy – to this little dog.

Canine Cindy carried on her namesake’s tradition of bringing sunshine into everyone’s lives, steadily creeping into all our hearts.  And eventually, grown in confidence, Cindy was ready for adoption.

Enter the heroes of this story – a caring couple looking to provide a loving home for a dog. As in all rewarding fairy tales, it was love at first sight on both sides.

This could have been ‘the end’, but it wasn’t!

In a second chapter of this story, someone in a shopping centre parking lot heard pitiful crying coming from the boot of a car, and waited for the driver to return.

Once confronted, he handed over the terrified little dog, and again she was brought to us. Boots, as she affectionately became known, grew into a vivacious, cheeky and opinionated character, loved by all.

When Cindy’s owners came back to visit us they decided to adopt Boots.  Boots went home with her new family, where she’s now best friends with Cindy.

All that’s left to say is, ‘they lived happily ever after.’

Thought About Adopting A Pet?

Animals make wonderful companions at any age.  If you’re in the market for a loyal and loving companion, you’re sure to find the right one in our kennels.  There’s a choice from puppies and kittens, to mature dogs and cats, through to quiet and gentle older animals perfectly suited to older owners.  Each one is hoping for a loving forever home.

Visited Our Farmyard?

This is where you’ll find large animals that have been rescued from abuse and the illegal skin trade.  Donkeys, horses and cows have all found a safe haven here at some time in their lives.  Children especially enjoy seeing animals that don’t feature much in the urban environment.

Thought About Becoming A Monthly Supporter?

The wonder of love and second chances

The wonder of love and second chances

Drew and Nancy were surrendered to our Kloof and Highway SPCA, with their two puppies.

These beautiful, friendly dogs spent time in our kennels, were walked by our dog walkers and went up for adoption.

Their puppies were cared for in our puppy unit and went up for adoption. All four family members were adopted – although separately to four new homes, it was a joyful day when Drew and Nancy were collected by their new owners at exactly the same time. The puppies went home a bit earlier. Bernha and Tys took Drew home and absolutely fell in love with this gorgeous boy. The Gouws adopted Nancy who had a new sister waiting to meet her (Maia).

Bernha and Tys realised that Drew was a little lonely after two weeks at home and decided to give another homeless animal a second chance at a loving home. Together with Drew, they arrived at the kennels and in a heartbeat little Jazzy‘s face looking up and out melted their hearts. After some meet and greet time in the social area under the guidance of Lara our Kennel supervisor, the decision was made to offer Jazzy a forever home with Drew. Jazzy had come in with her little puppy Schruffalo who was adopted and Jazzy was left on her own, so we are very grateful that she found love in the home of Bernha, Tys and Drew.

One of the pups, little Ollie (Rocket) was adopted by Jaryd who has commented – “This little ball of fluff is the perfect addition to our family. He loves playing with Zack, our sausage dog and is obsessed with leaves and the grass. What a blessing this dog is and we love him endlessly!”

Maverick – A transformation story

Maverick – A transformation story

Maverick – a story of transformation through love!

Inspector Petra Abrams responded to a complaint about dogs that were always roaming in the street as they were escaping the property in which they lived.

Inspector Abrams went to the premises and spotted an extremely thin, fearful dog. She spoke with the owner and told her that should the dog not be handed over immediately, the owner would be prosecuted. The owner complied and Petra gently put a lead on the dog and then lifted him into her vehicle to transport back to our Kloof and Highway SPCA.

Inspector Abrams noticed that the dog was terrified of people and decided she needed to help this beautiful dog to learn to trust again. Petra would sit with him gently talking to him and stroking him and at times even lay down next to him to gain his trust. This compassion worked and the dog started to trust Petra and other staff members. We named him Maverick and put him up for adoption, hoping he would find someone who would understand him and give him the love he so needed.

Our hopes were not in vain and Cathy Barnes fell in love with Maverick the moment she met him. Cathy renamed him Charlie as he is so goofy. Charlie loves making himself a bed with toys, towels and blankets. He is in his element when playing throw and catch with his toys and has a new best friend, a St Bernard called Olly (Olly is Cathy‘s son’s dog who was adopted from Randburg SPCA) Cathy has cats and also has visitors with both cats and dogs and is therefore doing crate training with Charlie prior to him being fully integrated with her cats, Molly (also from the SPCA) and Cole. Cathy has no doubt they will all soon be the best of friends as the training is going so well.

Thank you to Cathy and her family for the incredible home they have given to Charlie!
