Browsed Through Our Thrift Shops?

Whatever your interest, you’re sure to find something of interest – it could even be a hidden treasure.  Items range through furniture, books, music, sewing, art, toys, jewellery, bric-a-brac, horse tack and more.  All sale proceeds go towards helping the animals, making it a win/win transaction.  You can also donate unwanted items to our Thrift Shops.

Enjoyed Our Tea Garden?

Whether you just want a reviving cup of good coffee, need a place in lovely surroundings to meet up with friends, or hire the space as a venue for a party, our tea garden is open to welcome you.  Besides the jumping castles and jungle gyms to keep the children busy, there’s also a nursery full of indigenous plants for sale.

Thought About Adopting A Pet?

Animals make wonderful companions at any age.  If you’re in the market for a loyal and loving companion, you’re sure to find the right one in our kennels.  There’s a choice from puppies and kittens, to mature dogs and cats, through to quiet and gentle older animals perfectly suited to older owners.  Each one is hoping for a loving forever home.

Visited Our Farmyard?

This is where you’ll find large animals that have been rescued from abuse and the illegal skin trade.  Donkeys, horses and cows have all found a safe haven here at some time in their lives.  Children especially enjoy seeing animals that don’t feature much in the urban environment.

Thought About Becoming A Monthly Supporter?

Every gift at any time makes a difference for animals in need and distress.  And we’re deeply grateful for each one of them.  But if a monthly donation by debit order or by credit card is within your means, we’ll know that we can count on that amount coming in regularly.  As you can imagine, this is a huge help to our budgeting.

You can make a monthly donation securely on our website by clicking here.

A ‘wish list from our clinic

Our creed is to give any animal that comes into our clinic the very best of care.  But veterinary medical equipment is no less expensive than that for human treatment and is an ongoing expense for our clinic.  Below is a glimpse of present needs with their prices.  Any help towards these would be greatly appreciated.

  • Three spay cradles at R1345 each
  • Animal Handling Support Systems: Two syringe poles at R3850 each

Feel Good Fuel Campaign

Feel Good Fuel Campaign

Putting fuel into our SPCA Inspectorate

Ensuring that our Inspectorate and collection vehicles can always respond to a call out adds up to a whopping fuel bill of around R65 000 per month.

And you can imagine how each increase in the price of fuel really impacts on our budget.  As in so many other ways, we rely on people who care about animals to help us with this, resulting in our Feel Good Fuel Campaign through which anyone can make a donation.

This can be done when you’re filling up at the Kloof Engen garage where we have our account, and where staff will be wearing identifying caps and lanyards with our Zapper code. And all the staff here at the SPCA – at reception, in the tea garden, Village Green and at the thrift shops will be wearing lanyards and brooches featuring the Zapper code – as will our Inspectors.  Or you could make a deposit into our bank account:

The wonder of love and second chances

The wonder of love and second chances

Drew and Nancy were surrendered to our Kloof and Highway SPCA, with their two puppies.

These beautiful, friendly dogs spent time in our kennels, were walked by our dog walkers and went up for adoption.

Their puppies were cared for in our puppy unit and went up for adoption. All four family members were adopted – although separately to four new homes, it was a joyful day when Drew and Nancy were collected by their new owners at exactly the same time. The puppies went home a bit earlier. Bernha and Tys took Drew home and absolutely fell in love with this gorgeous boy. The Gouws adopted Nancy who had a new sister waiting to meet her (Maia).

Bernha and Tys realised that Drew was a little lonely after two weeks at home and decided to give another homeless animal a second chance at a loving home. Together with Drew, they arrived at the kennels and in a heartbeat little Jazzy‘s face looking up and out melted their hearts. After some meet and greet time in the social area under the guidance of Lara our Kennel supervisor, the decision was made to offer Jazzy a forever home with Drew. Jazzy had come in with her little puppy Schruffalo who was adopted and Jazzy was left on her own, so we are very grateful that she found love in the home of Bernha, Tys and Drew.

One of the pups, little Ollie (Rocket) was adopted by Jaryd who has commented – “This little ball of fluff is the perfect addition to our family. He loves playing with Zack, our sausage dog and is obsessed with leaves and the grass. What a blessing this dog is and we love him endlessly!”

Adoption Stories: Lizzy and Lenni

Adoption Stories: Lizzy and Lenni

The adoption of cats is sadly an area where there are far far too few adoptions, so when someone adopts two kittens or cats together, it really does bring such hope.

Our Kloof and Highway SPCA are always needing more adoptions, however in the past six weeks we have been blessed to have people choose to adopt in pairs. Malibu and Hershey, Ed and Ebony, Grace and Vera, The Cat and Pekin, Tony and Zion, Lizzy and Lenni and Gus and Mac.

Thank you to everyone who chose to adopt two kittens or cats, it really is so beneficial for them to be adopted in pairs!

Pathways Special Needs School contacted us to please come and collect two tiny kittens as they were afraid something would happen to them living on the streets as strays. These gorgeous little kittens were so bonded and it was hoped that there was a chance they could be adopted together. Not only did they get adopted together, but they were chosen by twin girls which made this adoption doubly special! Lizzy (now Butternut) and Lenni (now Coco). Pictures above.

“Thank you for giving our Twins, Olivia and Georgina, the opportunity to adopt kittens. They have waited for about 2 years to be allowed kittens. When they turned 6 years, they could go to SPCA to choose a kitten.

When we arrived, these two kittens were sleeping next to each other. The girls hardly looked further as they were captured by these sweet gentle cats. The kittens have been the object of all their affention since bringing them home. There are no signs of any love or attention dwindling.

The girls have suddenly matured and taken responsibility like we hadn’t seen before. What a gift to care for an animal!” – a message from Hayley Reader
