Adoption Stories: Lizzy and Lenni

Adoption Stories: Lizzy and Lenni

The adoption of cats is sadly an area where there are far far too few adoptions, so when someone adopts two kittens or cats together, it really does bring such hope.

Our Kloof and Highway SPCA are always needing more adoptions, however in the past six weeks we have been blessed to have people choose to adopt in pairs. Malibu and Hershey, Ed and Ebony, Grace and Vera, The Cat and Pekin, Tony and Zion, Lizzy and Lenni and Gus and Mac.

Thank you to everyone who chose to adopt two kittens or cats, it really is so beneficial for them to be adopted in pairs!

Pathways Special Needs School contacted us to please come and collect two tiny kittens as they were afraid something would happen to them living on the streets as strays. These gorgeous little kittens were so bonded and it was hoped that there was a chance they could be adopted together. Not only did they get adopted together, but they were chosen by twin girls which made this adoption doubly special! Lizzy (now Butternut) and Lenni (now Coco). Pictures above.

“Thank you for giving our Twins, Olivia and Georgina, the opportunity to adopt kittens. They have waited for about 2 years to be allowed kittens. When they turned 6 years, they could go to SPCA to choose a kitten.

When we arrived, these two kittens were sleeping next to each other. The girls hardly looked further as they were captured by these sweet gentle cats. The kittens have been the object of all their affention since bringing them home. There are no signs of any love or attention dwindling.

The girls have suddenly matured and taken responsibility like we hadn’t seen before. What a gift to care for an animal!” – a message from Hayley Reader

Tony had been in the cattery for a while, as had Zion and the staff could not understand how these amazing cats had not been adopted. The sad reality is some of the best older kittens and teens are overlooked and don’t get their second chances. Luckily Chef Rum, and his family visited and noticed these two playing together and their fun antics. They knew they could not separate this pair and decided to adopt them both. Blaze (Tony) and Gingi (Zion) pictured above, are finally in their beautiful forever home. This was a very special adoption as so often cats who are bonded have to be split.

Adoption Stories: The Cat and Pekin

The Cat is a charismatic boy who has a delightful and loving nature. The Cat, despite being a wonderful cat, was sadly overlooked for a while, even though so many people commented how adorable he was. Then one day, Joanna who is retired, walked into the cattery and said I want to adopt two older cats to be my companions. The Cat was the only adult up for adoption and as Joanna walked over to his enclosure he immediately came to ‘woo’ her. Joanna had wanted a ginger cat as well and as there were no ginger adults in the adoption section, she looked at a little ginger female kitten.

The concern was would The Cat who had been on his own in his enclosure be ok with this lively little kitten Pekin (now named Maggie). Well, being the beautiful soul he is, The Cat (now named Thomas) immediately took the kitten under his wing (despite a few scratches to his nose). Today, the pair are together constantly with Joanna, and in her words – “they have brought my life such joy and love, I could never be without them”.

Jessica came into the Kloof and Highway SPCA with the express request to meet Grace whom she had seen on the website and was taken with her beautiful eyes. Jessica and her mom, Dorothy went through to have a social with Grace and also looked at the other kittens and cats available for adoption. Jessica fell in love with Grace instantly and it was such a wonderful sight as so few people give the adult cats a second glance and always ooh and aah over the kittens.

A reserve was made on Grace and the mom and daughter went home to send their paperwork through for the adoption process and await the home check. On arrival at home, Dorothy thought about a six-month-old kitten, Vera who had touched her heart with her gentle spirit. The next day they returned and reserved Vera as well. Grace and Vera are now best friends which shows that with love all things are possible – Jessica and her mom chose to really see and understand Grace and Vera who are now part of a beautiful family.

Adoption Stories: Malibu and Hershey

Adoption Stories: Malibu and Hershey

The adoption of cats is sadly an area where there are far far too few adoptions, so when someone adopts two kittens or cats together, it really does bring such hope.

Thank you to everyone who chose to adopt two kittens or cats, it really is so beneficial for them to be adopted in pairs!

Malibu (now Aurora) and Hershey (now Apollo) were adopted by the Lombard family, as pictured below. Lynette Lombard and her family had not had a cat as a pet until a very tiny feral stray arrived close to death at their home and they decided to take her in. Sadly after a few months, although appearing healthy, Comet unexpectedly passed away and the family were devastated as they had come to love this kitten so much. Comet was so missed and the family realised that their home was not complete without the presence of a feline. After a visit to our cattery and seeing Malibu and Hershey together, the Lombards felt they did not want to split them and decided to adopt them both. The two kittens, now named Apollo and Aurora, soon became firm friends with the family dogs as well as the children.

Lynette says she really believes that Comet was instrumental in teaching them how incredible cats are and she led them to Aurora and Apollo. We never realised how wonderful cats are and such amazing companions. The Lombard children are home schooled and thus the two kittens have really bonded with them.
