From the Clinic: Bingo

From the Clinic: Bingo

Bingo was surrendered by his owner to the Kloof and Highway SPCA at the beginning of July and quickly stole the hearts of our staff.

Bingo was brought in by his owner because he could no longer take care of him.

He had tried to continue to care for his beloved dog after losing his job but sadly his circumstances had changed and there was no light at the end of the tunnel and he knew what he needed to do was make sure Bingo was taken care of. On admission, Bingo was matted, underweight, and lethargic but still had a wagging tail and a happy face. Our Clinic vet, Dr. Bangay found that he had biliary and would need medical care. Due to his dehydration, he was immediately put on a drip and was given the necessary medication. Bingo spent time in the clinic and soon perked up and was fed Hills Nutrition AD. He was given a trim and a warm bath. He started to feel much better and his big personality started to shine through! He is a happy little dog who loves going for walks and stops to say Hi to everyone.

Once Bingo was better, he was put up for adoption. This sweet-natured little dog needed someone who would understand him and give him the loving care he needed. Caroline Durrett‘s daughter told her mom about Bingo and Caroline, who had lost a beloved Maltese called Buffy some time ago, had not been ready to adopt another dog for some time. Her other little Maltese, Lulu needed company as did Caroline and her family, and when she met Bingo she knew straight away that the time was right to add a new family member

In Caroline‘s words, “Bingo has adopted us as if we always had him. He gets on so well with Lulu, my little Maltese although he still does not like to enter a bathroom. He loves everyone who visits and greets us all with his front paws waving. Bingo and Lulu sleep together on our bed at night and just love each other. Macayla, my granddaughter spends many happy moments with him and my husband has also grown so fond of Bingo who goes straight to him for a cuddle when he returns home every evening. Bingo loves to hare around the garden, chase the ball and any cat that ventures into the garden. I miss my Buffy terribly but when I met Bingo, I knew the time was right to adopt and I am so very happy I waited for our special little Bingo!”

Bingo has found his happy ending with his new owners who love him dearly.

From the Clinic: Misty

From the Clinic: Misty

During the floods our Inspectors went out to assist as much as they could. Many animals were stranded and left helpless.

Our Inspectors brought in two small kittens from a disadvantaged area who would have surely died had they not been rescued.

These two little kittens showed such a fighting spirit and were put in our high care to be monitored and cared for. The one little kitten had a gaping hole in her neck which was clearly a burst abscess. Our Clinic team wanted to save her as she had been through so much to make it to us.

She was treated and thankfully made great progress. Little Misty, as she is now called, was adopted by one of our Inspector’s daughters who noticed her and fell in love with her straight away. Misty went home at the end of May and is thriving with the love of mom Rachel. Rachel brought Misty to visit us and showed us how she is now walking on her little harness. Misty is so loved and her life has gone from fighting for her life to sleeping contentedly on her mom’s chest at night.

There are so many Misty‘s out there that sadly do not get the chance to live a better life. Please remember to support our Outreach Work and our Sterilisation campaigns as most kittens are not as lucky as Misty. Thank You to our Inspectors for finding Misty and to Rachel for choosing to give her the chance at the life she so deserves.

Misty visits our SPCA 3 weeks after her adoption…

From the Clinic: Mandy

From the Clinic: Mandy

Mandy, the gorgeous greyhound was brought into The Kloof and Highway SPCA having been treated by Dr Yesh Govender.

She was viciously attacked by 2 other dogs and almost left for dead. Thank goodness her owner took her to Dr.Govender, who with much needed medical attention and care helped her heal.

Sadly, the owner decided he no longer wanted her and Dr.Govender brought her into our care where she could continue her recovery and look for a new home. Mandy was put on to a diet of Hills food to boost her immune system . Her wounds were dressed and treated on a daily basis and steady progress with a lot of love from our dog walking team saw Mandy gain in confidence.

Our clinic team monitored Mandy before she went up for adoption and Clinic Hospital Supervisor, Inspector Kerri Andrews fell in love with this sweet, gentle soul. Kerri made the decision to adopt her and Mandy is now part of her family. Mandy is loving her life with her new family.

From the Clinic: Daisy

From the Clinic: Daisy

Daisy was a stray who was found by a kind man, Phillip, who posted on Facebook about the plight of this poor puppy who needed assistance and could anyone help.

Jean and Danny Nitzan saw everyone commenting on the post and they offered to collect her.

She was rescued and brought to our Kloof and Highway SPCA on Saturday 2 October 2021 by Jean and Danny. Field Officer Eric Simamane met Jean, Danny and Daisy. Daisy was admitted to our clinic immediately, she was warm, had food and water and was safe. Dr Caryl and our Clinic team did a full clinic examination of Daisy and she started her treatment immediately. As neglected as she was and riddled with mange she still had a spirit and a spark.

Our Clinic team monitored Daisy closely and all our staff wanted to find Daisy her extra special home once she had healed. We cannot save every animal, but we wanted to make a difference in Daisy’s life after her terrible start in life. After 2 months our sweetest Daisy transformed into a confident, goofy loveable girl who loved giving lap cuddles and licks! 2 months of daily treatment, an excellent diet of Hill’s Pet Nutrition and lots of walks and cuddles from our dedicated team of volunteers and staff and Daisy was ready to find her forever home! Sadly, Daisy was still waiting in our kennels at Christmas and we were so sad that she had not gone to her forever home for Christmas.

Jean and Danny always enquired after Daisy and could not believe that no one had adopted this incredible dog that was now totally healed, and gorgeous looking to match her beautiful personality. They felt a bond with Daisy and could not bear to see her in the kennels waiting and looking out wondering who would choose to take her home. They decided to make their current family of pets larger and came through to apply to adopt Daisy. Daisy has joined the family has settled in beautifully. She gets on with the other pets and is living her best life! Jean and Danny made the choice to rescue her originally and then to love her forever and in turn she loves them totally. Daisy will also be close enough to visit her friends at the SPCA who watched her transform from the neglected puppy into the adorable dog she is now.

Spoti – Snare Rescue

Spoti – Snare Rescue

Story of the month!

On 9 September 2020, Inspectorate Assistant Philani Nzama rushed out to collect an injured puppy from Kwadabeka, after the owner contacted Kloof & Highway SPCA requesting assistance.

Inspector Philani arrived on site to find a 7-month-old crossbreed male puppy called Spoti with a wire snare still embedded into the deep wound around his front paw.

According to the owner, Spoti had been missing for almost two weeks before he returned to the premises, injured and dehydrated. Philani rushed Spoti to our clinic where our veterinarian and clinic staff sedated him so that they could cut the wire off his paw and treat the deep wound. The pup’s wound was cleaned, bandaged, and he received pain medication and anti-biotics.

This lovely, gentle dog looks happier every day and will be reunited with his grateful owner as soon as his wound has healed. Our dedicated clinic staff are monitoring his progress daily and he is receiving lots of attention and love from everyone at our Clinic.

We would like to make the public aware of the dangers of snares and the immense pain and suffering they cause. Please be alert when walking out in a bushy area and remove snares immediately if spotted or alert your nearest SPCA.

For all animal welfare concerns, complaints and animals in distress, please contact the Kloof & Highway SPCA Inspectorate during office hours on (031) 764 1212, email: controller@kloofspca.co.za / inspectorate@kloofspca.co.za or for after-hours emergencies, phone our emergency number on 073 335 9322.
