Before Adopting a Cat, Kitten, Dog or Puppy  from the Kloof and Highway SPCA, please take note:

While we are thrilled that you are considering pet adoption, please do not make this a spur of the moment decision. Adopting a cat, kitten, dog or puppy is a lifetime decision for both your family and the animal. Consider these essential questions before you welcome a new pet into your home:

• Are you allowed to have a pet where you live now?
• Is your property suitable for the pet you want to adopt? E.g. fencing, size, ext.
• If you move, will you be able to take this pet with you?
• Do you understand that a pet is a 10-20 year commitment?
• Do you know the cost of feeding, pet products, vaccinations, tick and flea treatment and private vet care?
• Do you have a plan for holidays, emergencies and a safe place for them to go if something happens to you or your home?
• Do you understand that pets need proper training and sometimes negative behaviour need to be worked through with patience and positive reinforcement?
• Do you have the time to truly commit to this animal?
• Do you understand that it will take time for the new pet to adjust to its new home and that it will take time, supervision and patience?

Requirements to adopt from the Kloof and Highway SPCA

• Book an appointment via email to view the animals available for adoption: adoption@kloofspca.co.za. Please include your area, all resident animals (cats, dogs, birds, snakes, fish, exotic animals, farm animals, ext.) and the type/breed of pet you want to adopt.
• Once you have chosen your new potential pet, socialisation will be conducted between all members of your immediate family and the new pet. (in case of a puppy or dog adoption you are required to bring your current dogs in to socialise with the new pet)
• Completing an Application to adopt form and pay a fee of R120 when above steps were followed.
• Email required documents to adoption@kloofspca.co.za
  * Proof of residence
  * Copy of your ID
  * Proof of up to date vaccinations for all resident pets (dogs 5 in 1 + Rabies / cats 3 in 1 + Rabies)
  * Letter of approval from Landlord (If applicable)
  * Letter of approval from Body Corporate (If applicable)
  Letter from the Body Corporate must be on a letterhead, stating your name, unit number and the number and size of pets you are permitted to have within you residence. It needs to be signed with a contact number. Please note that the general body corporate rules will not be accepted.
• Adoption fee (R900 dogs / R800 cats) includes sterilisation, microchip and vaccinations after the home inspection has been passed.
• You have 48hours to come in and adopt the animal you reserved after the Home Inspection has been passed (unless otherwise agreed in writing).
• An additional R400 on the adoption fee offers your new family member 4 classes/one a week with the well-known and experienced Animal Behaviourist Daniel Stewart. The Kloof and Highway SPCA is wanting to ensure that every dog we home has the best chance of a successful adoption. Every dog deserves the best transition into their new life and we are offering that opportunity with just 4 classes on our premises.
• When adopting a cat/kitten, please bring in a suitable cat carrier to take your new cat home in.
• A post home inspection will be conducted after adoption at no prior notice to check on the adopted animal’s welfare.
• Should you for any reason not be able to keep your adopted pet, you are legally required to return the pet to the Kloof and Highway SPCA with all their documents.

There are many other ways to get involved in assisting the Kloof & Highway SPCA.

1. MySchool – while shopping online or in-store please think of us and swipe your Myschool card for the Kloof and Highway SCPA and we will receive a percentage.
2. Change Cans –  we have change cans at our Reception area as well as our Village Green and Thrift shops. If during lockdown you have no cans please still collect your change and donate to us when you ready.
