Welcome to Our New Catio

One of our long-held dreams at the Kloof and Highway SPCA has finally become a reality. We are delighted to introduce our beautiful new Catio, a safe, enriching outdoor space where the cats in our care can enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and the sights and sounds of nature.

Designed with our cats’ wellbeing in mind, the catio surrounds a magnificent tree and features climbing structures, platforms, scratching areas, and plenty of opportunities for exploration, play, and relaxation. It provides much-needed environmental enrichment, allowing our feline residents to express their natural behaviours while remaining safe and secure.

While our dogs benefit from regular walks with volunteers, we wanted to create an equally special experience for our cats. The catio gives them the freedom to stretch, climb, bask in the sun, watch birds, and simply enjoy being outdoors, something that makes a tremendous difference to their physical and emotional wellbeing during their stay with us.

The space isn’t just for the cats, it’s for our visitors too. If you’re thinking about adopting, considering volunteering, or simply looking to spend some quality time with our feline friends, we invite you to step into the catio and take a seat on the bench provided. Spending quiet time with the cats helps them become more social and confident around people, while giving you the chance to get to know their unique personalities in a relaxed, natural setting.

Whether you’re sharing a peaceful moment with a sleepy lap cat, watching an energetic kitten scale the climbing frames, or simply enjoying the calming atmosphere, the catio offers a wonderful way to connect with our cats and support their journey to finding a forever home.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone whose generosity and support helped make this dream a reality. Every improvement we make to our shelter is made possible through the kindness of our community, and this beautiful catio will enrich the lives of countless cats for years to come.
