A WOW event
A WOW event
Put together a sunny KZN winter’s day, 1 100 generous hearted people, craft brews and great food stalls, music, a supervised kids’ area, and you have the recipe for a fun-filled happening. This was our super-successful annual Ales for Tails fundraising event on the 3rd August. Huge thanks to our sponsors, the crafters, suppliers and our Kloof and Highway community for making this such a special and rewarding day, and for helping us to raise an amazing amount for the animals in our care!

Sarah adds Pedal Power to her passion for animals
Sarah adds Pedal Power to her passion for animals
Sarah van Heerden is your Kloof and Highway SPCA Operations Manager. As a result, she witnesses animal cruelty first hand, and is passionate about helping the victims. A task which requires dedication as well as money, as Sarah knows well.
It was this combination that inspired Sarah to undertake a fundraising cycle marathon of 1,600Kms which she paid for herself, only using Facebook to ask others to join her by making their individual Back-a-Buddy donations.
The circular route began and ended in Wellington in the Western Cape, covering 24,000 metres of climbing unsupported by other than one cycling companion and a GPX file route on her Garmin.
The ride took 7 days, starting at 4.00am each morning, and sometimes going into the night until 11.00pm. The route covered thirty of South Africa’s spectacular passes including Montagu, Meiringspoort, Swartberg and Baineskloof. But the going was rough, mainly on dirt and gravel back roads and a few jeep tracks.
Each day, the sunrises and sunsets were magnificent, as was the hospitality of people along the way. And the amount of money raised by kind people supporting Sarah’s ride is doing what she loves best – helping animals in distress.
Our thanks go out to Sarah and all who rode with her in spirit and in generosity and for helping us to raise an amazing R131 000.

Dog Box 2024
We have no words to describe how grateful we are for the overwhelming support received for our Dog Box Challenge 2024, and the incredible amount that it raised to help us keep caring for animals in our own and neighbouring communities.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
