16 December – ROCK HUNT AT KLOOF SPCA

On Thursday, December 1 6th, at 10am, Kloof SPCA will be hosting the second in a series of five rock hunts to be staged in Durban over the festive season. In addition there is a rock themed market and wonderful entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. The rock hunts are free of charge and are aimed at creating organ and tissue donor awareness for Hero777.

Bring along friends, family and a bit of cash to treat yourself to tea and treats, a biryani, or a rummage through the SPCA’s fascinating stalls, whilst the kiddies hunt down these little treasures.

Reading Rooster

The Kloof and Highway SPCA Reading Rooster will close on Sunday, 17 December 2021, and re-open Monday, 17 January 2022 at The Mushroom Farm with a twist! Watch this space.

We will be selling our 2022 Colouring Calendars for R75 at the Christmas stations at Westville Mall and Watercrest Mall, from SPCA Reception and our Thrift Shops plus the Reading Rooster Bookshop.

“As custodians of this planet it is our responsibility to show all species  kindness, compassion and love. Animals have no voice, they can’t ask for help, protection or freedom. The 2022 Colouring Desk Pad Calendar is an initiative to create awareness of the beautiful sentient beings that we are privileged to share this earth with as well as the incredible natural environment which is also in desperate need of care and protection. The generosity of the sponsors during such difficult times, together with the artistic talent of Kerry Carter have made the calendar a reality. Thank you to Barbara Patrick for her trust, support and kindness in allowing us to take our vision through to fruition with such a short lead in time.”

– Janine Kyle (Calendar Producer)

Feedback on some past events

Hidden Treasures Show

The Kloof and Highway SPCA would like to thank The Pavilion Shopping Centre for having our Hidden Treasures range which was an explosion of silks, chiffon, diamante, brass, silver, and embroidery mixed with the colours of Bollywood, and African sunsets and sunrises. Finished off with  original, once-off, handmade peacock and leopard print Avant guard headdresses made by Kevin Ellis and Gareth Greaves as well as choreographed and styled by Kevin Ellis. We would like to thank Roberta Alessandri Models as well for their gorgeous models and hard work.

The Killarney Brick and Block Kloof and Highway SPCA 2021 Golf Day

Was held at the Kloof Country club last Friday, November 5th for the first time in over 2 years. We loved sharing the day with some old and familiar supporters as well as many new faces. Every event of this nature is vital in our ongoing endeavor to raise as much income to support our organisation. Thank you to everyone who participated on the day and specifically to Killarney Brick and Block, Brett Venton from Kloof Village Mall Spar, Bertie Letts from Pureau, and the many people who donated prizes.

Outreach Clinic

We just love doing Outreach Clinics in very rural areas, and COVID and Lockdown changed that for our SPCA, but on 12 October to 14 October 2021, our Kloof and Highway SPCA held the most rewarding and productive initiative in the Inanda Valley at Mfula Store. The opportunity to reach those animals and people who cannot always reach us is so rewarding.

Our team of staff and volunteers, worked in the most difficult conditions when temperatures reached into the 40’s and during ‘loadshedding’. Despite various challenges, we achieved so much in this community, we sterilised their pets, we educated owners, we treated injuries, vaccinated animals against Rabies, removed unwanted animals but most importantly animals were positively impacted by our successful Outreach.

Thank you to everyone who supports our initiatives, your donations are appreciated and to Mfula Store, Gill and John Graaf, thank YOU for hosting our 2021 Outreach Clinic and for your kind hospitality. In total 150 animals were sterilised and vaccinated for Rabies, an additional 68 animals vaccinated for Rabies, 11 dogs treated for various injuries or illnesses and 38 animals humanly euthanised.

Adoption Day

Our first Adoption Day a wonderful success! The Kloof and Highway SPCA hosted the first of many Open Adoption Days on Sunday, 28 November 2021.

What a wonderful day it was for the animals, staff and exited new owners. 2 dogs went home on Sunday and 12 more dogs and cats will be homed this week!

Thank you to Hill’s Pet Nutrition for sponsoring all our lucky draws and giving us lots of treats and spoils for all our new pet parents!

Thank you to Hayley Wood, the KZN representative from Hills Pet Nutrition for taking the time to not only support but see what the day was about.

Thank you to Denise from Edupup Puppy School for spending the day with us, advising and guiding new pet owners.

It is heartening when one of our animals goes home and we need more adoptions as we have so many gorgeous animals who will make wonderful pets and deserve a second chance.
